We are fortunate to have stand-alone percussion classes for our beginning and intermediate band students. In this class, we work on the snare drum quite a bit. We have three snare drums - enough to use for performances. However, we currently have 9-14 percussionists in a group. Currently my percussionists are sitting as well as playing on the floor during snare drum lessons. I have noticed this makes it quite difficult for students to play with correct stance, playing position and grip on an actual instrument when we spend the majority of our time playing on the floor during class. With the snare pads I have selected, my percussionists would learn the basic posture, grip and playing position necessary for learning the instrument and be more engaged and critical of their performance abilities. With the pad stand, they would be able to change the pad to their height, making it easier to perform with good technique. Of course, being able to stand and play the instrument (even a practice instrument) is much more appealing than playing on the classroom floor. These snare pads would help to motivate them to even greater heights. Having enough snare pads for every student in our classroom would permit us to learn more, learn better and learn standing up!
