Our school currently does not have any class novel sets for seventh grade to use that cover any mythology. Everything we have is limited to realistic fiction or modern historic fiction. During the year students will be learning about Greek, Roman, and Norse mythologies and having a class novel to illustrate how these mythologies are still being used today would be amazing! As a literacy teacher I have observed over the years that students almost exclusively read realistic fiction. One of my class goals is to expand those horizons and expose them to other genres of literature that they might otherwise ignore or be oblivious to. Having a class set of novels in the fantasy genre about mythologies would go a long way to igniting their desire to read outside of the comfort zone.
