The struggle for students to obtain a real life experience of the world around them can be difficult especially when they do not have the support at home. Learning in school is a great way to provide resources in the classroom and help them inquire and think critically about light, darkness and shadows. Students will use different materials such as cellophane paper, translucent blocks and vellum paper to explore vocabulary words such as “transparent” this will help develop their language skills as they engage in scientific explorations and thinking. Student will have the opportunity to enjoy literature, retell and act out stories they have read using the flannel board and felt paper to make puppets. Children will build on what they know about light, darkness, and shadows through informational texts.
