Working in a school that is 100% free and reduced lunch means that our students come to us with many needs other than academic. One such need is that our students often come to us anxious, overstimulated, and unready to conquer academic challenges. Our goal this year in third grade is to help ease the fear, stress and trauma that has developed over this difficult year of 2020-2021. We would love to bring in weighted blankets for our students to use during silent reading time and any time of they day they begin to feel stressed or anxious. It is one of the tools we would love to teach them to use along with conscious breathing, morning yoga, and even some meditation! I have seen first hand how these strategies can help relax a child and open them up to learning, love, and a bright future.
