The core SEL Competencies every counselor strives to teach the student body are self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness. The kindergarten-fourth grade students in our school will benefit from the tools and books funded by this project because they are designed to help them thrive socially and emotionally which in turn promotes academic success. Research shows that students who learn to respond appropriately in these five areas find more happiness in school and eventually in life. Encouraging happier and emotionally healthy students is one of the main goals of our school, especially during the uncertain events surrounding the pandemic. The books, games, and activities in this project are all designed to put students on a trajectory to success with the idea of creating a better society where people care for one another and work together to solve problems and build a place where people enjoy being.
