Our district uses a workbook to learn math, but no one wants to be stuck learning math in their seats with a workbook all the time. We like to get up and move! These items will allow my students to work on activities throughout the room. We like to practice our math skills using gallery walks, which is similar to walking through an art gallery, except students are walking around solving problems on posters around the room, like art spread throughout a gallery. Once these problems get solved, students receive an individual clue or letter that will result into a phrase, joke, or piece of artwork when complete and correct. Students are more engaged in these activities for practice than practicing problems at their desk. The poster paper is for students to record their clues while the clipboards are for students to use as a hard surface to show their work on their paper while they are walking around. Students will be able to use their resources by utilizing the anchor charts on the poster paper that is spread across the room. Anchor charts are notes of the concepts taught in class that are posted around the room. Students will be able to see the notes from anywhere in the room. They also can walk around from poster to poster to find the notes they are looking for, which again gets them out of their seats while using their resources helps them to be independent learners.
