As the pandemic affects our small community, schools shutdown and students become at home learners at the blink of an eye. Therefore, most of our assignments are posted on Google Classroom. This helps bridge the gap between my completely virtual learners, and my face to face learners. However, it is difficult for my face to face students to complete their assignments online when we do not have 1:1 technology in our classroom, and/or they do not have technology to use at home. Therefore, I am requesting 1 Chromebook which will be used to read digital copies of diverse books, and to enhance their digital skills. This year my students are learning about culture by understanding differences and valuing diversity. To support their growth, I would like to provide books and digital passages about various cultures, including their own. This will help my students value their backgrounds and cultural history, while learning about others who may be different from themselves. Many digital stories will be available through free programs such as EPIC! Students will use their laptops to read these stories at home and school. Stories include: Henry's Freedom Box, All the Colors of the Earth, Jazz, Can I Touch Your Hair?, and Building Bridges to People Different from You. Digital resources will be purchased with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. These resources will include: Celebrating Diversity Bundle for 10 Diverse Mentor Texts by Ideas By Jivey Diversity Lesson and Activities by The Responsive Counselor
