A sensory table in the early childhood classroom opens up a wealth of opportunities for a student to learn many different skills by using the different items offered in the table to help with math and literacy skills as well as language and social interaction with peers and basic social skills such as turn taking, etc. Some ways that social studies and science curriculum areas could be addressed would be to supply items for animal habitats and communities. These kinds of topics and play situations can also lead to a variety of dramatic play scenarios where students can invent and act out what they are envisioning in their minds with the props given as they so choose.
