Painting in the classroom is always fun, but very messy. Nevertheless, it will be worth it. COVID has changed the lives of these kids in so many ways. They show excitement for learning and wear their masks every day without complaining. They stand six feet apart from each other when getting in line, and their desks are separated. Working in groups is no longer an option and playground time is not the same. They can no longer play with kids from other classes. During this trying time, providing the kids with opportunities to express themselves in ways other than verbal communication is so important. Especially for the kids who are intimidated or have feelings pent up inside them that they do not want to share. There is so much that can be learned from children’s pictures. The watercolors and paper, I am asking for, will help with this. Not only can the kids draw and color for academic reasons, but they will have opportunities to use their creativity by coming up with drawings on their own. I cannot wait to see their excitement when they see their new paints and paper and what they create.
