With this project, my students will use critical thinking, growth mindset, strategic play, and so much more. Using games also creates high student engagement. Chess, Pente, Mancala, Sudoku, Gomuko, and Mastermind are the games that they will experience. For each game, students will learn the history of the game, vocabulary, inventors, and strategies needed for play. Students will use a growth mindset when presented with new challenges. They must equip themselves with alternate methods to implement strategies learned to accept defeat on their journey to success. "Failure is not the opposite of success; it's part of success." Arianna Huffington Students will engage with the games, explore multiple strategies, and explain their reasoning. They learn the importance of thinking one step ahead and how chance comes into play. Perseverance, tenacity, and integrity are life skills taught throughout. These skills will create lifelong learners. Even as adults, we still crave the thrill of strategy and the feeling of accomplishment.
