COVID-19 really impacted our underprivileged English Language Learners population leading to an even wider gap in their education. Students have very little access to technology at home let alone being literate enough using technology. Since we have been learning remote since March 2020, I find these students are falling further behind.
Unlike remote learning, in the classroom I am able to work in small groups with these at risk students to give them the individualized attention to try and bridge that gap and push them further to catch up to grade level as fast as possible. This is not possible now given this global pandemic.
This iPad will be used as a way to gather these ELL students in small groups on zoom to mimic the classroom. By using this iPad I can create a small group Zoom meeting that students can log into. In which can monitor and meet with these students alongside the rest of my mainstream students to help mitigate any misconceptions of content information or to help translate into student native language at the same time. It would make it easier to create a small group session remotely in a split screen futuristic way!
