To keep our classroom COVID safe, the after-school cleaning staff sanitizes our classroom every day. Each kid has their own basket with supplies that cannot be shared. They are not allowed to check out library books or drink water from the fountains. They are shut off. With these precautions, kids are still testing positive and many are being quarantined that sit near the student. Usually, this means that at least half of the class is absent for at least a week. I would like the kids to have a safer learning environment by providing privacy shields for desks. They will get an extra layer of protection. After all, the reality is that we have too many students to have each desk six feet apart from the others. These kids deserve to be safe. I am also asking for an electric pencil sharpener, so the kids do not have to use the same type we had to use as kids. And of course, dry erase markers never last long enough. All these items will make life easier in the classroom for everyone.
