These materials will help me to provide students with more diverse literature and to see how their dreams are important! I plan to use the books for our read-aloud time in my class and the other 3rd grade classes. During this time, we ask students to make connections to the characters. In a school with a 47% minority rate, it is important that our books include main characters with different ethnic backgrounds and economic backgrounds. With these materials, ALL students will feel as though there are tools in my room that help them calm down and feel more like themselves. The goal of using resources bean bag chairs and fidget toys is for students to have choices about what to do when they feel overstimulated. As a future special education teacher, I want to be prepared for students who struggle to regulate emotions- have choices in how they want to calm down. This will help my students to better access the curriculum.
