This year I will teach 7th and 8th graders in a district in San Antonio that has mainly minority students who are both at-risk and below the poverty line. 100% qualify for free lunches. The makeup of this school is about 54% Hispanic and 46% Black. Our teachers would love to show these students how minorities have affected the history of our country to connect them a bit more with their roots. It's important for students to learn about topics and people they can relate to and care about. We would love to connect them with a rich history of Indigenous people to learn more about minorities in America. These books would be shared with my entire class.
