Learning how to speak up about important issues that occur in Middle School will make a difference in students' learning. The novel that I have chosen, Maybe He Just Likes You, teaches children where to draw the line with friends and peers. The often-used phrase, "I'm just kidding", does not excuse bad behavior. The novel that I am purchasing offers kids the opportunity to learn how their actions and words can build others up or tear them down. Empathy is a behavior that must be taught, and this novel is the perfect literary choice for achieving that goal.
