My students require access to sensory input throughout their day to stay engaged, regulate their emotions, and maintain control of their bodies. My students are coming back to their classrooms for the first time since March 2020! In order to keep students safe, they will no longer be able to use the school's sensory room for sensory breaks. The 'calm down' areas of their classroom will need to have new materials that are individual to each student or easily sanitized between students. Individual and easily santizable sensory materials will help my students stay regulated to more fully participate within their classrooms while also preventing the spread of COVID 19 between students. My students learn and grow best when they have access to the sensory materials and supports that they need. Each classroom will receive an easy to clean therapy ball, massager, and weighted ball for movement and sensory activities in the classroom. I will also make each classroom a weighted sensory lap pad using the reusable ziploc bags, the slime charms, and adding rice. Each of my 35 students will receive their own calm down kit including 2 fidgets, a theraband for calming 'heavy work', and a sensory calm down jar (made using the plastic juice bottles and glitter). I will add visuals and deep breathing cards to each kit as well. A chewy will also be provided for students that seek out oral input. By funding my project you will be helping 35 students with unique learning needs transition back to in person learning safely and successfully!
