Reading the right book can have a lasting impact on a student's life. This novel written by activist Bryan Stevenson will open my students up to a world they have not seen firsthand. Reading real-life stories about the suffering of wrongly convicted people will provide them with insight into the issues of the criminal justice system today. Students will be able to see how minorities have been plagued by injustices in the criminal justice system throughout history. My students likely have never thought about how the criminal justice system has failed so many. This book will help open up and facilitate that discussion.
