Maya Angelou once said, "Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him." With tablets and phones becoming an every day item in households it has caused a loss of interest in reading. As I enter my new role as a 4th grade teacher, my focus has had to shift as well. Instead of assuming that students are reading at home, I am focusing on renewing their interest in reading and having them read during the school day. In order for this to happen, we need books! Lots and lots of books! Books purchased through this project will be inventoried and added to my classroom library. They will become a part of our daily book talks, which, throughout the course of a school year, will potentially introduce students to 180 different books that they may not have even known existed! Imagine the impact of 180 book talks every year!
