We are working with local high school students to implement a garden that will be planted by the 4k students, tasted by the 4k students (and their families), and pulled out by the 4k students. From there, we will work with the high school students to create an outdoor classroom for our 4k students to use on a regular basis.
Eight benefits of an outdoor classroom include:
1. Increased attention span
2. Elevated mood
3. Improved health
4. Boosted academic performance
5. Connection to nature
6. Decreased behaviors
7. Ability to work collaboratively in groups and problem solve together
8. Hands-on, practical experiences
The use of the mud kitchen will give students all of the above benefits of outdoor learning. Children will develop real-life experience with a hands-on approach to learning. Working together to create, problem-solve, share, and build empathy and confidence, students will develop a growth mindset that will not only help them today but help them to become the future leaders of tomorrow.
