In a socially distanced classroom, dividers pose a visual obstacle and makes my AHDH students feel like they are in a bubble. This gives them anxiety and the wiggles. To have a more engaged whole group instruction, I have my students sit in a circle on the floor with face masks and face shields. However, our classroom does not have a activity carpet or floor seating. My students are currently sitting on a uncomfortable hard floor. For small group instruction we sit around a half circle desk but the chairs we have are not fit for their size. Better flexible seating will help them stay focused during these group times. My students love to learn and they will be better at it if they can move and stay active while doing it; flexible seating will keep them focused as it allows them to move while working. During individual or group work time my ADHD students need accommodations to stay focused. My classroom will benefit from fidget toys and chair bands because it will help these students stay actively moving while also focusing on my lesson. Further during whole group instruction, a bilingual activity carpet will help my students maintain their first language while also building their second language. Along with the carpet, seat cushions and donut seats will make sitting on the floor more comfortable which will keep my students still and ensure that they are where they need to be to stay socially distanced. During small group instruction stools and wobbly chairs will keep my ADHD students moving while learning and will provide other students with the proper posture they need that my current chairs does not give them. All of this combined will make a socially distanced bilingual classroom a fun place to move around, learn and explore.
