Word work is an important component to our balanced literacy program. It is a hands-on time to explore the spellings and meanings of words that students encounter in their daily immersion with text through both reading and writing. Word work helps my students become better readers, spellers, and writers. These resources will completely transform my student's experience with word study as they will be able to manipulate letter tiles as they grapple with word spellings and meanings. Providing each student with magnetic letters will help students explore, attend to, learn about, and efficiently use sounds, letters, and words. Word work is the foundation of our experience with text and utilizing these materials will allow students to develop a deep understanding of how language works.
