The indoor/outdoor furniture will assist in allowing my students to choose where they want to read and study in comfort. We are in the process of creating an outdoor classroom where they can spread out more and get some fresh air (Covid-19 free) and hopefully sunshine (vitamin d) to enhance their desire to spend more time-on-task learning. I have found my students' progress increases when they feel comfortable in a non-threatening environment. They love being given the opportunity to choose where they want to work. Motivation is key in helping students increase their reading levels and the outdoor environment can be a great motivational factor. Think about it. Wouldn't you rather sit in a comfortable chair in a sirene environment to contemplate? Less intimidating and a fresh new atmosphere could make all the difference in the world for students who struggle to maintain attention and conform to the traditional classroom environment.
