A sensory break is a fancy term to say taking a break from regular classroom activities to regulate your body. Sensory breaks provide any child, whether they have specific sensory needs or not, the chance to reset, focus, decompress, and get their brains and body back to a place where they are ready to learn. We know that children learn best through movement and exploration. Giving them breaks throughout their day, allows their brain to relax and reset while continuing to provide learning opportunities for important social-emotional skills. Currently, our sensory room provides sensory breaks for children with Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and children without a diagnosis that just need an extra movement break throughout their day to improve their learning capabilities. However, our most of our equipment is unusable as we return back to in-person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it is made from fabric that cannot be wiped down or cleaned easily. By donating to this project, you will not only help with self-regulation and social-emotional development, but in turn, help to increase student's academic achievement!
