Distance learning hasn't been easy, but my students continue to excel and persevere each day. Since March of last year, our school have been attending school one hundred percent virtually. It has been difficult to recreate materials and lessons to work virtually and even harder to find ways to keep my students engaged and learning while we are miles away from each other. Sometimes, we talk about school and the things we miss. Many of the students express missing recess, center time, and spending time with their friends. However, recently, we've discussed missing physical books, writing on paper, and all the things technology is not. I find it important for students to have physical books in their hands even though we are at home. The magic of first grade is learning to read and hearing stories you love. First grade is circling around the carpet with your friends to hear the next chapter of "Magic Tree House". First grade is graduating to your first chapter book. First grade is falling in love with reading. The materials and supplies that I am requesting are so that my students can fall in love with reading again. Some of the books are for students who need help in the early stages of reading, some are to hear wonderful stories during our read aloud time, and others are books my students can take home and love. This way they can create a library of their own at home. Other materials are ones to be distributed in their bi-monthly supply bags. With hybrid learning set to take place in the coming weeks, I am asking for a plexiglass divider and flexible floor seating that won't need to be shared. I thank you for considering my project and my students as we push through distance learning!
