The power a picture book has to impact a child's life is invaluable. I read multiple picture books to my students each day. In my 8 years of teaching I have taught a wide variety of grade levels and students. There is one common characteristic about all of these students and that is the joy of a good story. Whether the students listened to a story I read or they read on their own, books bring childhood to life. For my project I have included a wide variety of picture books I would like to have available in my classroom for my students. I believe in having choice for students to read because every person is unique and special. I want to be able to provide books for my students to foster all their interests and dreams. Social and emotional needs of students are also an important need for teachers to support. Currently, I use a social and emotional learning curriculum to help support these needs. I have included many picture books in my project to support the skills I teach in this curriculum. Students are able to relate to characters in a story who have the same emotions as themselves, which helps them not feel alone. Please help support my students' love for reading and learning by helping us expand our classroom library.
