My students are excited about learning and being in school for the first time. As a teacher for 25 years and the mother of a kindergarten child, I know the importance of reading and writing and I want to hone my students' love for education. Having their own personal journal and additional sheets of paper, will give them somewhere to practice their writing and allow them to see how much they have grown. Whether they are practicing writing their name, sight words or creating and publishing stories during writing workshop, their writing will be organized. Because they are face to face in school, I want each child to have their own individual supply of pencils, crayons, and other needed materials. I want to be able to print pictures, tracing activities, word cards, and other incentives that will encourage my students to read and write more. Being in school during this pandemic means taking extra precautions to stay safe. The students will not need to share the supplies. Having their own collection of resources is one way to give them ownership of their learning. Not only will each child have their own writing materials, but they can also start their personal collections of books for their individual library. Kindergarten students start reading and writing on different levels. It's so important my students have access to reading and writing materials that meet them where they are.
