The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of slavery and give them valuable insight into learning about our history. Historical fiction is a fun way for our students to learn about the past by bringing them back in time. Historical fiction has the power to make connections between the past and present in ways that facts and dates sometimes obscure. Allowing my students to read Nightjohn, will allow them to see through the eyes of a young man who fought to teach others how to read and write.
