My kindergartners are living in a time where opportunities for screen time far exceed their opportunities to listen to and turn the pages of favorite books. My goal is to provide students hands-on listening experiences with books on c.d. through the use of independent listening centers. Over my many years of teaching in the classroom, I have built a large listening center library, but need an independent way for students to access these books and a listening center will allow those books to be enjoyed by my students over and over again. Students will be able to engage daily with favorite books read aloud to them modeling fluency and expression and further creating a love of literature. My kindergartners will also have the opportunity to listen to and discuss books with a partner to aid in their listening and verbal comprehension while also instilling a love of books and print. The experience of holding a book in your hands and independently turning the pages is priceless!
