This will be our final novel study for the year and what better way to end the year than with a book who's characters experience real-life issues like bullying, not fitting in at school, moving to a new school, and how about learning to accept a cultural choice that is quite different than what you are used to? This year more than ever, students need to read a book about how kindness really can make a difference in students that are really not much different than themselves! "Save me a Seat" touches on these real-life themes in a way that is accessible to students by showcasing 2 characters who couldn't be more different, but manage to work together and even find friendship by the end of the novel. In the end, they work together to show the school bully that kindness always wins, but in that journey, each student realizes that first impressions are not always what they seem, and you really can't tell if someone is a good friend simply by what they look like. There are many themes that students will relate closely within this book, creating higher engagement in the novel study.
