My project requests will help my students have great materials to build their vocabulary skills. I have a small classroom with small groups of students in each 40 minute class. The students look forward to playing games and doing different and unexpected things in my classroom. My class breaks up the routine of their other classrooms. My students need unique teaching approaches to meet their educational needs. Since I only see my students 40 minutes a day, I use every bit of my time working on many skills. We build vocabulary daily. We work on fluency and comprehension every week. The dictionaries are vitally important for my students. The dictionaries I use currently are paperback, used at most once a month because they are falling apart. All of them are missing pages. They are not "kid-friendly" at all. They are vital to my student's vocabulary development. If you think this is "old-fashioned" you should know that I pride myself in teaching the basics to students; including using guide words and chronological order. They need to know more than how to type a word on the computer and get a definition instantly. The vocabulary card games and magnetic letters will help my students have hands on learning for vocabulary development. I would appreciate the bookshelf so that my students can have easy access to the new dictionaries.
