By obtaining these books, I will be able to teach students a culturally-rich novel. Not only will students be transported to a different society than the one they experience everyday, but students will also grow in their reading ability. Reading this novel will expose my students to the importance of diversity and the importance of including others. At a time when it is difficult to step outside of your comfort zone socially, novels give us the opportunity to facilitate difficult but necessary discussions to produce cultural awareness. I will be pairing up with the geography teacher on my team to create lessons rich with culture and characterization. With these novels, I would be able to have students dive into the text and analyze various aspects of the plot, creating necessary and in-depth discussion. Because this novel focuses on Middle Eastern culture, lessons about the culture found in this novel would open my students' eyes about how others different from us can still relate to us.
