My district is extremely fortunate to provide each student with 1-1 iPads for educational use, but I find most of my students have a severe lack of typing skills because of the iPad’s typing format. My young writers prefer to type their work, as they like the published look it gives their final creation, but their inability to type fluently hinders them. Many of my students type using only their pointer fingers, which almost doubles their production time. By donating to this project, my students will be able to practice their typing skills, which is an essential function in our technology-driven world, therefore, propelling their storytelling abilities. The physical keyboard option increases student choice and accessibility in writing. By enhancing their typing skills, my third-grade authors will waste less time struggling with functionality and be provided the ability to find their voices in their written words.
