Kindergarteners come to school ready for fun and learning, but as we all know, fun means activities that are stimulating and hands-on. Distance learning with kindergarten can be extra challenging as we are not able to provide as many of the typical, numerous amounts of hands-on experiences that keep our students engaged and involved. The Cricut will allow me to send home engaging projects that will teach language arts and more important than ever, social-emotional learning. I would like to send home cut-outs of characters and settings so that we can write and create stories together while learning online. Writing is already a difficult task for kindergarteners when we're working together in-person, so I want to find ways that would make writing more fun and engaging for my students while at home. These cutouts can be used as paper puppets or even be glued down to create story books. I would also send home an art project that will allow students to express and share their feelings. It will include an array of unique vinyl shapes/cutouts and several fabric markers for each student to design an image they feel depicts who they are. Parents will be asked to assist students with ironing the design onto a pillowcase for students to keep. I will spotlight a few students a day as a resource to begin a dialogue about respect, emotions, and feelings and also so they can feel proud of their projects. There are so many possibilities with a Cricut that I can go on and on with the many projects I anticipate on doing with my students--Mother's Day gifts, end of school year memory books, and Father's Day gifts included. I know it will serve my students in this class and the classes ahead.
