The use of technology is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in reading. Using differentiated (varied learning) activities during Reading workshop, students are assigned individual or group activities after whole group or small group guided practice. Instead of giving students a worksheet or word cards to learn their alphabet sounds and sight words, I want to integrate technology and hands on learning tools. Students will be able to use the iPad to scan a barcode located on my Word Wall to visit online videos and stories, while others can practice making words to read and then rotate stations to complete activities based on their groups learning needs. While some students are practicing their alphabet sounds with the iPad, other students who know their alphabet sounds will use the touch phonics games to blend letters to make words and practice their sight words improve their fluency. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase students reading foundations and fluency, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology and interactive materials will increase their literacy as well as increase their engagement to learn.
