My students are 3 to 5 years old. They learn by having authentic materials they can touch, feel and use. By providing the simple machine materials they will be able to explore and manipulate the simple machines, pulley's, levers (balance) and gears to investigate how they can make work easier. The students will use the bricks to see how many they can place on the lever to make it balance. They will use the pulley to move the bricks around. They will use the gears to observe how parts work together and it will be exciting for them to make the robot move with the remote. My students will be active participants in the engineering learning process by making a plan to use the simple machines, and follow through with their design as the students test their theories. The simple machine tools you donate, will give my students examples of what a simple machine is as they play with them and create opportunities for them to design their own.
