It is well researched that reading throughout the elementary and middle school grades is important for vocabulary and speaking skills. The students in the middle school go from a well-stocked library at the elementary school to a small, torn apart library in the high school. By the time they reach high school, there is a good chance that they will have read many, if not all of the books that are available to them. Quite a large selection of the books are not age-appropriate or even interest the students. By providing books that are at the right age level, the students will be able to keep up their reading habits and positively affect their vocabulary skills. Students will be able to check out these books and read them throughout the day/week. While, the students will still have access to the main library, having shelves of books in the classroom will help cut down on time outside of the learning environment and will also show the students just how important literature is. Kids will be able to stay in the classroom and choose a book whenever it is needed.
