As humans, we want all parts of ourselves to feel seen and appreciated. Reading texts with which we can relate to the plot, characters, and authors, is an important way for our experiences and identities to be validated. It's also an important way to excite young, and oftentimes reluctant readers to pick up a book and read. Reading is a critical part of building my students' proficiency in English, and by having a classroom library full of culturally relevant, interesting, and young adult literature-centric texts, I hope to entice my students to read. As a brand new teacher, I am building my classroom library from the ground up. I deeply appreciate you considering funding my Donors Choose project.
