The impact that unmanned aerial vehicles or drones have had in different sectors of society such as defense, emergency response, video production, agriculture, and disaster relief within the past ten years has been significant. Our mission is to provide opportunities for students to experience and learn new skill sets that will enable them to be successful in careers that may or may not be already established in 2020. These drones we are hoping to purchase with this request will serve as a way to instill the foundational knowledge of a new drone curriculum amongst our middle school and high school STEM/CTE programs. A combination of coursework and hands-on activities designed to help master each of the objectives with our curriculum will create a learning environment that is engaging for learners of all abilities. These Tello combo kits will allow our students to learn the basics of drone flight and test piloting skills in the classroom by flying drones through obstacles. These Tello drones also allow us to introduce computer programming that can be differentiated based on students' experience and understanding. These tello drones can be coded using basic block coding and can be programmed using a more advanced computer language such as python. These drones also have the ability to capture photos and videos, such it gives our students who are in our video production classes an opportunity to enhance their ability to capture our school activities from a whole new perspective. Drones will be used to record classroom activities and extracurricular events for our bimonthly student news broadcasts and school publications.
