I'm a huge proponent of concept-based curriculum. I choose things to teach based on what overarching skill or concept I want my students to learn. It is also important that I teach my students about the world around them, not just what's in their own backyard. Expanding their understanding of music and how it is the universal language can open up new opportunities for personal growth, and teach them compassion for others who are different than themselves. That's why I've chosen the ukulele as a method of teaching multicultural music.
