I am requesting for each of my students a copy of Esperanza Rising a novel that represents so many of their personal families experiences. Our county, like so many in the U.S., is 100% Distance Learning. Every student will receive a copy of the novel to read and listen to at home. We will read and discuss in our online Class Meetings as well. Over 50 % of my students are of Latin descent. The majority of these students are either recent immigrants themselves, or they are first generation Americans. They need books that represent their own experiences and their own culture. "Esperanza Rising!" does this. We will complete a novel study unit while reading "Esperanza Rising!" This novel study will cover historical and current events that contribute to immigration. We will study the culture events and family ties that matter to so many and are important to the story of Esperanza.
