Our classroom is full of students with interests that vary from kittens to monster trucks. My goal is to build a library that is diverse enough, not only to meet my students and their individual level of learning, but also to provide them with books that they love to motivate them to pursue their literacy related goals and that they find personal relevance to whether it be through cultural relevance, similar family structure or mirrored emotions. Every student in my classroom has a learning disability that impacts their ability to correlate sounds with letters, recognize sight words and/or apply decoding skills to uncover unfamiliar words. Simply put, reading is not easy for my students. However, they work hard everyday. I would be ecstatic to reward them with a rich classroom library that gets them excited to pull new books off the shelf and spend time exploring engaging illustrations. We would love your help to bring this rich literacy experience to my precious classroom kids!
