The decodable books that I am requesting for my students will help them to learn to read. The most recent reading research has shown that students learn to read by engaging with text that allows them to break apart and determine unknown words by using the phonics rules that they know. When students learn to read by using their understanding of words and how they work, they are most likely to become skilled, lifelong readers. By donating to this project, you will be helping to provide my students with interesting books to read and opportunities to improve their word decoding skills. Not only do my students need books that they are able to decode, they need books that have engaging story lines. The decodable books that I am requesting have beautiful, full color illustrations and are about topics that my students will find interesting. My students will not only become better readers by learning to decode words, but they will also look forward to reading because these books are so exciting to read!
