Evaluating very young children virtually has been a challenge for our team on many levels. I am so proud of my team as they have embraced this challenge so well!! However, we have found that many of our families lack manipulatives, toys, and books that are needed to effectively assess these sweet children to determine if they are in need of special education services. Our team determined that we needed kits that we could safely deliver to the families prior to the scheduled evaluation for them to borrow for the needed evaluation. The kits that are requested for this project have a wonderful variety of materials that we can use for our standardized assessments such as blocks, books, stringing beads, and a learning doll, and a host of other tools. The parent will have these materials on hand to introduce to their child while we conduct our virtual assessments. The team will schedule a time to pick up the kits after the assessment is complete and all times will be sanitized according to the CDC guidelines. Having these kits will help us more effectively make the important decision in determining if a preschool-aged child is in need of exceptional education services, giving them the early intervention services that are needed for success in their learning environment.
