I am a new Media Specialist and it has come to my attention that students don't know how to pick good books. I have started with a reading challenge for students and staff with the Florida Sunshine State Reader books with a bookmark so readers can check off the books as they finish them. The staff and students have been reading up a storm! I literally cannot keep these books on the shelf. Now, I have made bookmarks for several book series such as Junie B Jones, Captain Underpants, Harry Potter, A to Z Mysteries, Dork Diaries, Dog Man, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, and many more. Just having a reason to read, to finish a series, and knowing the book will be a good book, is reading getting these kids reading! I have requested an acrylic bookmark stand to put the bookmarks on display. The books I have requested are either new series, books for author studies, or books to fill in missing books in a series. Students are asking me, "What series should I read next?" Music to my ears! “There's no such thing as a kid who hates reading. There are kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books.” ― James Patterson If we get them reading the right books, you have a reader for life.
