Graphic novels can be an effective way of learning for students at any grade level or reading ability. For my 10th graders next semester, I would love nothing more than to build an engaging book club unit where we can discuss each unique novel and dive deep into historical fiction, a genre that students might hesitate to reach for. With these texts, students will be able to learn more about issues of race, segregation, war, loss and identity. By reading about these historical events, students will also be able to understand the lingering effects of these issues and how they have changed not only America, but the world.

About my class
