My school has not had updated dramatic play centers in many years. Times have definitely changed! I want to be able to give my students a rich environment in which they can be doctors, veterinarians, store owners, receptionists, and anything their heart desires. In order to capture their interest and get their creative juices flowing, they first need the environment in which to pretend. My students had a simple kitchen set this past year and I found that it was very difficult to transform our classroom in the way that I needed to.
Creative play is especially important for students in an early learning classroom. These students learn primarily through productive play. I would love to be able to transform my classroom into a doctor's office where students can learn to write numbers at a "reception desk" and take care of patients in a doctor's chair. They can learn about health and wellness. I can take a simple grocery store set up and create flower shops, plant shops, and farmer's markets. One change can be the catalyst for an entire themed classroom which will reach across a great number of skills and standards. Please help me bring this to my students!
