My students are hooked on reading, and I want to provide them with books to read while they are at home and opportunities to discuss what they've read with me and their classmates! Students are unable to check books out of our school library this year, so sending a book home that they love and that they can keep would be amazing. As a class, we have already read two Magic Tree House books as part of our curriculum. My students would really appreciate having their own Magic Tree House book to keep. When I was their age, I loved Beverly Cleary books and would really like to share The Mouse and the Motorcycle! Students can read when they are home during the week and then they can take part in a Literature Circle when they are at school or on Zoom! Literature Circles are a great way for students to improve their comprehension, discuss text, provide evidence for their thinking, and make connections to the world and others! Our Literature Circle will start out being teacher-led but we will transition to all students taking ownership and having specific roles including Vocabulary Wizard, Summarizer, Connector, and Illustrator. The comfy Wobble Cushions will add to their reading experience as they get excited to settle in and go on adventures with the characters Jack and Annie and Ralph! The journal will be a great place for students to record their thinking and keep track of their work from week to week. My ultimate goal is to keep my students interested and engaged in reading. Providing opportunities for them to read and talk about text will benefit them for a lifetime!
