In this crazy time, students trying to learn from home are struggling in multiple areas. Teachers are trying to come up with as many solutions as possible. Some of them already exist but are just too expensive for teachers. An iPad will allow me to accurately SHOW the math process through Zoom and the wireless mice for the students will help them show their work so we can read it correctly. Try writing out the problem x squared plus 5x minus 8 only using your touchpad on a Chromebook and see how difficult it is. We recently did an assignment where students needed to multiply (3x + 5)(2x -6). Because of the difficulty with using a touchpad on their Chromebooks, some of our numbers looked like each other and numerous students got the wrong answers. Some of 30s looked like 36s. Eighteens looked like 13s. It was a mess because of the technology, not because of their learning. Although wireless mice are not the best, they are much easier than the touchpad. Most students have already invested in wireless mice, but I have about 25 students who are unable to purchase them on their own.
