I am teaching under the idea of a "modern classroom." In this environment, student learning is somewhat self paced and students are offered choice in what, where, and when the complete tasks. There are different areas of the classroom set up for things like: small group instruction, show what you know mastery checks, hands on activities and experiments, independent study, and collaboration corners where they can work together. This project is meant to make our collaboration corner feel more comfortable and inviting to the students and encourage peer collaboration in a less formal setting. By adding a fun and colorful rug and some beanbag chairs to their learning environment, anxieties will decrease and student learning will increase.
