Providing students with recorders will help them support basic music theory, enjoyment of playing an instrument, and the accomplishment of learning songs. Learning the purpose of a Treble Clef, tempo, notes, Chords & Harmony are some of the important things students would have an opportunity to learn experientially. Students could play songs such as Kentucky Blue, Quaver's Irish Jig, and The B-Lues to name a few. I can send out videos to students that gives the history of the Recorder, how to play notes, and instrument care online. This could encourage students to join band, and be part of something memorable.
